West Side Stories, ‘Red Rocket‘, and ‘The Power of the Dog‘
Tuesday Dec 14, 2021
Tuesday Dec 14, 2021
Remake cynicism begone, Steven Spielberg's retelling of West Side Story is pretty damn good. The titan filmmaker managed to inject some classic Spielberg Magic™ into the musical that we've been missing in film for some time, which often helps the film overcome some of its plot and character issues. Brennan and Nick talk about what worked, how it compares to the 1961 original, and why Ansel Elgort is a major shrug at best.
Elsewhere, Nick discusses why he loves Red Rocket and its reprehensible lead character, and they both take some time to gush about Jane Campion and The Power of the Dog.

‘Eternals‘, ‘Spencer‘, ‘Red Notice‘, and ‘The French Dispatch‘
Tuesday Nov 16, 2021
Tuesday Nov 16, 2021
Collin and Nick are back to talk Eternals, Spencer, Red Notice, and The French Dispatch. They break down the MCU's first certified rotten flick in great detail. They talk what they liked about the certainly unique take on the MCUs most obscure protagonists to date as well as Zhao's direction. They also dive into those post-credits scenes because they love a good tease.
Next, Collin and Nick discuss the royal family and why their lack of Royal Fam trivia makes no difference to how great of an experience Kristen Stewart and Spencer are. Nick also discusses his disdain for Netflix's latest, Red Notice. To wrap it all up, they clash over The French Dispatch. Who liked it and who didn't?

We've waited and waited, and finally, Denis Villeneuve's Dune has arrived. It's a lot to unpack, but it's undoubtedly one of the biggest moviegoing events of the year. We discuss our general thoughts on the production, plot, and all that spice.
Elsewhere, Brennan and Nick catch up on some of the previous weeks' big releases and discuss why Halloween Kills is very, very bad, why it's a shame that everyone decided to skip out on Ridley Scott's The Last Duel, and why Daniel Craig's swan song as Bond in No Time to Die is equally emotional and silly.

This weekend saw the release of the pandemic's largest theatrical opening to date. Venom: Let There Be Carnage swung to a roaring $90 million debut, topping its predecessor by a cool $10 million. Nick and Collin discuss what this means for the box office as well as our thoughts on the film and what it means for the Sony Spider-Verse. We also talk Sopranos and The Many Saints of Newark. With one of us being a Sopranos stan and the other being a novice we talk about different perspectives and notions of the film's many colorful characters. Nick also breaks down the release he saw not once but twice this weekend, Titane.
To wrap this episode up we dive into the mystical world of Shang-Chi. Nick spends more time than he's comfortable with discussing Dear Evan Hansen. Lastly we take a look at James Wan's Malignant. All this and more on this week's episode of The MovieBabble Podcast.

'Candyman' Sours, 'Spider-Man' Takes Over the Web, and 'Kursk' Sinks
Monday Aug 30, 2021
Monday Aug 30, 2021
This week began with the long-anticipated release of the first Spider-Man: No Way Home teaser. Promising plenty of action, villains, and the Raimi universe along the way. Nick and Collin discuss their reactions to the trailer and spend a little time reflecting on Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films and why they are still so beloved. This week also saw the release of Nia DaCosta's Candyman. Nick and Collin break down what works, what doesn't, and why they both walked away feeling a little underwhelmed. To wrap up this week's new releases, Nick kindly takes us on a journey through He's All That.
For this week's episode of the MovieBabble Club, an MB Club first! Thomas Vinterberg becomes the first director we've visited twice for an MB Club pick. This week Collin chose to visit with the director's only English speaking film, Kursk. This based on a true-life event film leaves Nick and Collin both wondering what the point was supposed to be.

Sadly for Hugh Jackman, Reminiscence flopped hard this weekend, both critically and financially. Despite the crew wanting more mid-budget movies with movie stars attached to them, Lisa Joy's directorial debut just didn't cut it. But Brennan and Nick thoroughly enjoyed whatever the hell Annette was, and they do their very best to wrap their heads around what they watched.
Elsewhere, on the heels of Reminiscence and ahead of Dune, the team returns to Denis Villeneuve's Prisoners and discusses how funny the name Detective Loki is. All this and more on this week's episode of The MovieBabble Podcast!

Three movies released wide in theaters this weekend. First was Free Guy, the Ryan Reynolds vehicle which finally opened after approximately 57 delays. Then there was Respect, the Jennifer-Hudson-led biopic on Aretha Franklin's life and career which hopes to become an Oscars hopeful in the coming months. And then there was the head-scratching sequel, Don't Breathe 2, which exists.
But none of that matters -- The Kissing Booth 3 is finally here!!! Brennan and Nick offer a tearful goodbye to the end of one of cinema's most respected trilogies and analyze what might be next for its cast members. All this and more on this week's episode of The MovieBabble Podcast!

'Suicide Squad' (2016) vs. 'The Suicide Squad' (2021)
Monday Aug 09, 2021
Monday Aug 09, 2021
This weekend saw the release of the highly anticipated, James-Gunn-directed film The Suicide Squad. Despite an arguably soft opening at the box office amid concerns of the Delta variant, the film has proven to be a streaming hit on HBO Max. Between Zack Snyder's Justice League in March, and now The Suicide Squad, DC has decidedly made this year the year of the "do-over" and audiences are all the better for it.
Now, how exactly does it compare to the 2016 film that, while poorly received by critics and audiences alike, seemed to take over pop culture in a big way, even if for a brief moment? Listen to this week's episode of The MovieBabble Podcast to find out!
